    The Town Of Batavia
A part of the Batavia-Geneva-St. Charles tri-cities area, Batavia straddles the Fox River in the heart of the Fox River Valley. Interstate highways are only minutes away. I-88 is five miles to the south. I-90 is less than 20 minutes north. Both link the community to the entire metropolitan market. State routes 25 and 31 run north to south through the city, following the path of the Fox River. East-West state routes 38 and 56 are a short distance away. There is convenient access to commuter trains for those who work in Chicago.

Geneva, Batavia's neighbor to the north, and Aurora, its neighbor to the south, offer full schedules of Metra commuter trains. PACE bus service offers convenient transportation between Batavia and neighboring cities in the Fox River Valley. And for air travelers, famed O'Hare International Airport is an easy drive away. The character of Batavia reflects both its past and its present.

It is a city as simple as the windmills it once made, giving it all the easy-going qualities of a small town. Yet, it is as complex as the atom smashing done at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in its southeastern corner. Growth in housing, business, and industry continues to expand city boundaries, carrying with it the complexities of modern day suburbia.

The Randall Road corridor, on Batavia's west side, explodes with new shopping centers and new subdivisions of homes, while in the downtown area along the Fox River, resident volunteers lay brick walkways and build staunch timber overlooks at the Batavia Riverwalk that enhance the beauty and restfulness of the area. Batavia is also a city of fine homes. They range from gracious, turn-of-the-century mansions to executive-style homes with three- and four-car garages, and from ranch and split-level homes to luxury townhouses, condominiums, and apartments.

The city has a highly rated public school system, plus excellent private facilities. With more than 150 acres of parks within the city and thousands of acres of forest preserve around it, Batavians enjoy some of the finest recreation opportunities anywhere. Proud of its past, Batavia has managed to retain much of its early history while continuing to look toward the future.

Numerous stone buildings, made from stone quarried in the community, dot the downtown area. An eye-pleasing display of windmills graces the lawn outside the governmental building on the Riverwalk in the downtown area. In June 1996, the city played host to the eighth annual International Windmillers’ Trade Fair, an event that drew several hundred windmill enthusiasts from throughout the world.

As Batavia looks to a new century, it does so with confidence that it will always be a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
